Launch of the four conservancies in the Otjozondjupa Region

Four communal area conservancies in the Otjozondjupa Region were officially launched on the 18 November 2005 at Okamatapati. These are the African Wild Dog, Okamatapati, Otjituuo, and Ozonahi Conservancies. The four conservancies have a total population of about 24,000 and cover a combined area of over 1.6 million hectares. They were gazetted on the 20 September 2005.

The event was attended by the Honourable Minister of Environment and Tourism, Rev Willem Konjore, members of the media, and community members, mainly Otjiherero and San speaking, who braved the grilling heat of Okamatapati to witness the launch of the four conservancies at the Ongombe Farmer's Training Hall.
