Nominations open for NNF-Go Green Environmental Awards for 2006
The Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF) and the Go Green Fund of Nedbank Namibia have joined forces for the third consecutive year to invite nominations of worthy candidates for two Environmental Awards in 2006, to recognise individual achievement in the fields of:
- environmental management and sustainable development within Namibia; and
- environmental journalism in Namibia.
The purpose of these awards is to publicly acknowledge the contributions made by individuals and thereby demonstrate that individuals can and do make a positive and significant impact on the quality of our environment and to sustainable development. Other positive benefits of the Awards include the incentives that they provide for innovation and commitment, the publicity that they bring to the field of work of the winners and the general awareness that they create for the importance of wise environmental management.
The two awards each consist of a cash prize of N$10,000 and a framed certificate. The awards will be presented at an annual NNF Function in November should the selection panel be of the opinion that an appropriate recipient in each category has been nominated.
The winners must be Namibian, and must have made outstanding contributions to wise environmental management and sustainable development, or environmental journalism, typically over a period of years, although shorter interventions would be considered if they have had a remarkable impact. Achievements would normally be of an innovative nature and have a clearly demonstrated impact. Demonstrated impacts will be the overriding consideration in the selection of winners.
All Namibians are eligible, with the exception of NNF and Nedbank Namibia staff and boards and their immediate families.
Anyone may nominate one or more persons for the awards, including him or her self. A simple one-page nomination form must be completed, attached to any supporting documentation considered appropriate, and returned to the NNF by midday on Friday 29th September 2006.
A small review and selection panel, consisting of four prominent individuals, one from each of the private sector, academia, NGO sector and government, will evaluate the nominees and reach a final decision.
Nomination forms can be obtained from: The Namibia Nature Foundation, P O Box 245, Windhoek; 4th floor Kenya House, Robert Mugabe Avenue, Windhoek or downloaded here [link removed].
Closing date: midday Friday 29th September 2006.
