Second State of Conservancy Report launched
The Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the management committee and its supporting members from the Namibia Association of CBNRM Support Organisations (NACSO) launched the second State of Conservancy Report at the Polytechnic's Hotel & Tourism School on the 26th February 2007.
One of Namibia's most significant achievements is its rapidly growing, community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) programme in communal areas. The CBNRM programme has moved on from the policy and legislation phase to implementation, and to achieving significant impact on the ground. This is especially true for the formation of the communal area conservancies, of which there are now 50 registered. These are areas in which rural communities gain rights to use, manage and benefit from the natural products and wildlife within areas that are legally defined. It's these areas that form the subject of this report. The Minister of Environment and Tourism launched the second edition of the State of Conservancy Report.
