The distribution of reedbuck, waterbuck, lechwe and puku
in southern Africa is shown in relation to average annual
rainfall (Figures 5-8). The distribution data are from ASG
(1998) and are somewhat crude at the scale of individual subpopulations.
Nevertheless, it is notable that
- there are no 'naturally' occurring populations of reedbuck,
waterbuck, lechwe and puku below the 400mm rainfall isohyet
- in the case of puku, there are no populations below the
600mm isohyet;
- Reedbuck, waterbuck and lechwe have been introduced to
private land in northern Namibia in areas where the average
rainfall is below 400mm.
