Activities and progress to date
Output 1: Project Management
- Transition of SKEP Sub Regional Namibia Office from Keetmanshoop to Windhoek and hosted by the Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF), & consolidation of grants and projects offices
- SKEP Project Coordinator ToR drawn up, vacancy advertised and staff recruited
- Meeting with MET conducted to agree on operational mechanisms for cooperation & partnership
- Annual work plan developed, with targets and outputs
- Steering Committee established and ToR agreed
Output 2: Implementation and coordination
- Stakeholder Consultation workshop conducted to consolidate and finalise SKEP-Namibia focus, criteria and Steering Committee
- Liaised with partners that received SKEP grants prior to NNF involvement and established coordination mechanism
- Liaised with other grant-making mechanisms and other projects working in the SKE to look for areas of cooperation and mutual support
- Contracted consultant to carry out an information gap analysis for future strategic and pragmatic priority gap-filling plan
Output 3: MET supported in Sperrgebiet
- Cabinet submission for Sperrgebiet proclamation has been prepared and submitted - which also includes institutional arrangements
- Concept paper on Land Consolidation has been prepared
- A concept proposal to identify and acquire strategic units of land between the Sperrgebiet and Huns Mountains has been submitted to Fauna & Flora International
- Following a recent visit, the Peace Parks Foundation has ear-marked N$ 1 million for strategic land purchase in the proposed corridor
- Capacity needs for Sperrgebiet National Park have been assessed by MET: vehicle, computers and radio communications system in place
Output 4: Small grants facility for civil society
- "Grantee Kit" prepared based on criteria and procedures for SKEP small grants mechanism agreed with stakeholders at workshop
- SKEP small grants facility advertised and information disseminated via the media, email, web site, through local MET and NGO offices, Regional Government, local forums etc
- Review body established to screen and shortlist applicants
- Steering Committee makes final decisions on first set of pFriday, July 21, 2006g requirements prepared and signed for three projects
- Second call up for proposals advertised
Output 5: Information disseminated
- SKEP Namibia newsletter first edition compiled and distributed
- SKEP Namibia web page designed, with downloadable project application forms
